3rd February 2012
Another blissful week with super, hardworking, well behaved boys. We have stretched our brains and Mrs White's tights in the name of science; we have discovered that a page of writing is easily accomplished with the use of paragraphs. We have enjoyed making clay pots and hope to paint them next week. Friday was just fantastic because we explored google maps in ICT and found our houses! Then we went and watched some of the soccer matches going on in the Sports Hall and we got back to class in time for our lego session.
Some of the J3 boys would like their comments recorded - Joseph says that J3W History will be all about Anglo Saxons and that he is looking forward to finding out about them.
Ben Green says that J3W are really enjoying themselves because we have had a really nice week and on Friday our special treat is Golden Time, that we all love.
Edward says J3W are learning such a lot and having a lot of laughs together too. He says this is the best class ever!
Ali would like to say that he can't wait for his next history lesson and that he is looking forward to no homework over half term.
Jamie would like to say that he enjoyed learning about Roman Britain.
Scott says that running into a brick wall at full speed isn't a good idea apart from when you are playing rugby.
Mrs White says have a nice holiday everyone, it will come before we know it!
24th November 2011
Well, this week we made mud pies - all in the name of science though. The boys are, I am sure, keen to repeat the experiment for the benefit of their parents at home!
We also made a really good fireman's chain and got all the Christmas boxes into the van without one being dropped.

21st November 2011

This term J3A have been making sandwiches in our Design Technology lessons. They have visited the school kitchens and made a selection of sandwiches using various fillings. They have even been able to design their favourite sandwiches and make models of them using foam and material.

18th November 2011
Well what a week , we have just been busy, busy, busy. Einstein dropped by to arouse our curiosity in relativity....
We designed sandwiches with a difference... and have just had a great week, currently we are relaxing with the lego which remains a firm favourite.

2nd November 2011
Well, we had a fantastic first day back after the holidays, (we, being J3W). The day involved a lot of food, firstly Scott's birthday cake, then Casper's Halloween cakes and after lunch, sandwiches!
We were invited over to the Dining rooms by John Montagu, (Mr. Davies), he kindly gave us some interesting facts about sandwich making. He showed us the importance of hygiene and made sure that we all washed our hands with soap properly before putting on aprons and hats.
After showing us how to thinly butter a piece of bread, we selected our fillings and made a sandwich to take home.
Having thanked Mr. Davies, we returned to the class room to find a huge box of sandwiches from Mr. Hall.
We discussed the reasons for such a vast range of sandwiches before sampling rather a lot and recording our findings. Thanks to everyone for their help in our edible day!

"The World Beneath Their Feet"
Working in pairs, the J3 boys took great care with their wax rubbings and observational drawings of the drains and man-hole covers in the Parade Ground as part of Geography lessons. Through careful observations they are developing mapping skills.

29th September 2011
J3 were lucky enough to be visited by a dentist team and were shown lots of equipment as well as being given lots of information for example how much sugar is in a small packet of dolly mixtures!

J3 have found out so much about the Roman Army through their own questioning and answer sessions.

Y3
boys are loving a challenge, teamwork, good weather and super models to make -
if they can follow the picture instructions!

20th September 2011
Congratulations to Edward Dawe, he wins Judo Player of the Week and he has only had 2 lessons so far!

16th September 2011
A big thank you to the parents from J3W, you have worked very creatively on your plates and they look absolutely fabulous.
We had an interesting history lesson and finally dressed young Edward as a Roman Soldier and sent him into battle next door , (J3A). But, being a rather clever class, we came to the conclusion that Edward made a good fake Roman Soldier as they would not have gone into battle wearing plastic armour and fancy dress costume, nor would they have unpacked their plastic carrier bags and eaten chocolate biscuits.... (so we ate them instead).

14th September 2011
It is another school year and we have a new batch of eager boys to join the Junior School family. Mrs White writes...
We, in J3W are really, really happy! We have a new Form Captain, Joseph and Deputy Captain, Ben Green, We have just voted for our school council rep and that goes to Charlie. We have already learnt ever such a lot and Mrs White is very pleased with our efforts.
Here are some comments from Milton Boys -
Sumukh says we have had a lovely time and learnt a lot,
Michael says I enjoy the lunches and maths lessons,
Arjun says that he is meeting more and more nice friends,
Sam says that he is making a lot of friends,
Joseph says (after a think and a sigh) I like history because it has lots of old things that I like from the past
Scott says, I like it in J3 because it is easy.
The boys are enjoying their magic boards and their mystery books.

23rd June 2011
Well, we have been running a few experiments with our plants, no water, over water, no leaf and no light not to mention squash.
None of the aforementioned plants are looking to well for obvious reasons. We can hardly bear it so will probably go with Sebastian's plea of resuscitation and see if we can nurse the poor plants to full heath.
Meanwhile, J3 have become very green fingered with respect to their individual plants which are well watered, frequently checked and measured for new growth and positioned carefully to catch the light. These plants will be returned shortly to be re housed and some cases re potted.
Oh, squash, if you are wondering, is our attempts at pressing some leaves under the geography atlas stack....

14th March 2011
The gang have been finding out about Jesters, they then used cutting skill technology to design these beautiful hats, which are on display in the classroom.

Junior 3 have been busy designing their own magnetic experiments. They discussed the experiments, made predictions and carried out the experiment.......it was all very exciting!!

10th March 2011
Junior 3 have been writing their own poems about pancake day. Archie Rawson writes........
My Pancake Poem
By Archie Rawson
Hot pan,
Crackling,
Spitting.
Batter in,
Make it swirl.
Starting to set,
Let it brown.
Flip it, flop it,
Upside down.
Let it slap,
Onto a plate.
Ready to eat,
Hold on, wait!
Sprinkle with sugar,
Pitter, patter.
Ice cream on,
With a splatter.
Hey mum, is there any more batter?!

Ben Maitland writes...
On Tuesday it was Pancake Day.
My favourite food of all.
They sizzle and bubble in the pan
And I want to eat them one and all.
Mum got up very very early to make the
The batter and I had the first one before
Any body else, but that didn't matter.
She flips them and flipped them out of the pan,
But one went wrong and landed on the kitchen fan.
I had chocolate buttons on mine
And the taste was absolutely divine.
The sugar fizzled in my mouth
And I loved the taste of sweet sugar.
The lemon made me cringe up my face
Which sent my mind into space.
The scorching pancake flew down my throat and landed in my tummy,
It was very YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMY!!!!
And the sugar made my whole body shiver.
I love Pancake Day because is lots of fun for every one.
AND I LOVE THE TASTE OF SIZZLING, SCORCHING HOT PANCAKES.
Tom Baybutt-Scull wrote a great poem too...
Pancake Day
We beat the batter
It sloshes round the bowl
Bubbles form and pop
The pan crackles hot
The batter hits the heat
Not long to wait
Up goes the pancake
Flip, flip, splat
The smell is delicious, I can't wait
Here it comes now onto my plate
A squeeze of juicy lemon
A sprinkle of sugar
Mine is ready
"Mum make me another!"
3rd March 2011
So, what have the year 3 boys been up to recently?
Well, the presentations were so truly superb that the J3 teachers wrote a thank you letter to all the parents for their support. The children were really confident and talked about their chosen topic clearly and very persuasively. A great selection of prompts were brought in too.
We have been exploring the strength of different magnets, - size isn't everything! Hopefully the lads have learnt the basics of a good bar chart, ruled lines, spaces between the bars, that kind of thing!
Fraction work is progressing nicely, we can recognise fractions of shapes, find fractions of number, and even spot equivalent fractions as well as ordering by size. J3 know that to have a large piece of cake they want to pick the fraction with the smallest denominator.
I gather that I, (Mrs White) am to make the cake for Mr Wardle for red nose day. I am working on one of those melt in the mouth (face) cakes, the kind that on eating ( impact) leaves (traces) enormous quantities of jam, cream and sponge all over the place. It has been suggested that I enclose a brick, which is funny as I was thinking of a cement mix with super glue to ensure it sticks together - well ....Dear Mr Wardle, what would we do without him?
1st February 2011
J3 have been investigating which paper is best at mopping up water. This could lead to all sorts of investigations in the name of science.

31st January 2011
Junior 3 brought in dragon props to help inspire their creative writing about a dragon. Some boys printed off lovely pictures, others brought in books and poems about a dragon and RIchard and Archie brought in fabulous dragon models. (of course, they could perhaps have got their inspiration from their teachers who, I'm told, are a right pair of old dragons!! I, of course, couldn't possibly comment! - PAW)....P.S. ONLY JOKING!! - PAW.

26th January 2011
During science lessons, the boys have been bringing in interesting objects and telling the boys about the history, origins and properties of the chosen object. Well Alex brought in this fantastic metal, cake mould. Of course all of us were greatly interested in how the cake came out of the tin. Kind, lovely, obliging Mrs Shields sent Alex in the very next day, with THE CAKE, the cake to rival those of Mrs Hall. (We wait for her to rise to this challenge!).
Thank you Mrs Shields, the boys worked hard this morning to receive their cake reward.

18th January 2011
J3 have been looking at shape, colour and line to produce these icy abstracts on display throughout the school.

24th November 2010

Real hands on stuff! J3 have loved looking at sandwiches, once the screaming with excitement stopped and Mrs White could hear again, the boys investigated and evaluated the various sandwiches and had a go at spreading fillings and cutting bread too. A big thank you to Mr Hall for providing all the ingredients.

16th November 2010
The scientists are at work, sorting a pile of rocks into impermeable or permeable groups. Only one water spill but we found out that the carpet is permeable too!
The message you tried to print is protected with Information Rights Management. You don't have the necessary user rights to print the message.

12th November 2010
J3 have been busy investigating the properties of different rocks. Today we tried a fair scratch test to see whether some rocks are harder than others.

2nd November 2010
Junior 3 were given the challenge of making a cube from a net. They began the task by colouring in their nets beautifully and then the real task began folding, glueing and hoping their cubes were glued in the correct places and would look like a cube at the end........

8th October 2010
Mrs White writes...
It gets worse! Not only have we got the lovely J3 boys to eat apples in our science experiments, now we have shown with disclosing tablets, that teeth need to be brushed thoroughly. Especially if they have been eating chocolate or sweets!
Mrs Rogers writes...
Junior 3 did an experiment in science this morning using disclosing tablets to find out where the most plaque was in our mouths after eating sweets and chocolate and in some cases boys didn't have anything. We found out that some boys in junior 3 need to take more care brushing their teeth as their teeth were as red as Liverpool football kits!!!!

1st October 2010
J3 were challenged with tangrams. They were given the 7 pieces and various pictures and had the challenge of creating them without any help. It was a thoroughly enjoyable lesson.

27th September 2010
J3 Geography
Rub-a dub-dub!!!

Boys from both J3 classes have been investigation views of the Parade Ground - from a distance and from a Bird's-Eye-View (vertical). They have drawn plans and made rubbings using wax crayons of drain and manhole covers.

20th September 2010

19th May 2010

The lovely Y3 boys really got their teeth into a nitty challenge and presented a superbly acted performance to the school about the history of nits. Costumes and acting were superb with Archie brandishing his little orange handbag with nit fighting equipment enclosed and Harry running for his life to avoid the nurse. The 4 nits had a lovely song and looked extremely happy. Congratulations to Matthew Simpson, who is the rising star in acting and took a main lead with gusto!

19th March 2010
Do you like our penguins? We are trying to imitate Clarice Cliff ceramics now….

The stronger the magnetic force of the magnet the greater the amount of paper clips attracted. We will be able to fish all sorts of things out of the backs of sofas now….

The further you stretch the elastic the longer the distance that the car will travel…preferably in a straight line on the floor and not through the air!

Thursday 4th March 2010
J3R introduction to forces - had to colour parrots and then work out how to make them balance on the perches. Need equal forces to balance so had to add plastercine to their tails to make the weights equal

Friday 29th January 2010
In our science lesson we wanted to know which paper was the best at absorbing water and which the worst was. This is so we can mop up Mrs Coyne's cold coffee if she spills it ever.
Printer paper was pretty hopeless but the paper napkin was the best. Perhaps we should have paper napkins at lunchtime?

And there's more! (Haven't the J3s been busy bees?)...
Year 3 have been loving experimenting with clay models, they have been challenged to make a penguin. Some of our penguins are dry enough for us to start painting them.

All this...and an assembly for J3W too! The told us all about lies and the little boy who cried wolf. It was really good...
We would be telling lies, if we said that our assembly was a disaster! We were praised for our clear talking and acting, all good preparation for the Year 4 assembly next year...

Wednesday 20th January
J3R did a BRILLIANT assembly about The Romans and the fall of Pompeii. Oliver Meadows writes...

We have been learning about Romans in class as part of our history lesson. On the 20th January J3R did a Roman assembly about disasters. Robbie and I were time travellers and the other boys were Roman people.
Tim and George welcomed the boys to our assembly and explained that our play was based in a Roman classroom. Josh was the teacher and was teaching a lesson. Then Robbie and I came in - Josh was surprised to see two time travellers. The time travellers had come back in time to learn about the Romans. The teacher found a letter and passed it on to one of the Roman children to read out. The letter was about Pompeii disappearing under lava - a big disaster in Roman times. Then we did a poem about Vesuvius, a volcano in Pompeii. We learnt that Roman life was much different than life now. We also said a prayer for the people of Haiti who lost their lives in the recent earthquake. Unfortunately disasters still happen today.
We were proud of our performance and hope all the boys enjoyed it. We did!

Friday 15th January 2010
Happy New Year!
Well, the boys have all returned to school and are already working very hard on a variety of activities.
They look awfully nice in their long trousers, and are hoping that more snow will come.
Both classes are busy preparing school assemblies and we suspect that an element of dressing up will be involved.
Class room displays are starting to change to reflect the new topics, acrostic poetry, celtic and roman heads, mosaics and materials and their properties (science), just to mention a few of the activities underway.
As well as increasing their knowledge on mathematical sharing (division) each year group receives a newspaper to share, full of interesting current events and aimed at the children.
A big thank you to the two Form Captains and Vice Captains who have stepped down from their duties and have been so helpful to their class and teachers. The new Form Captains are Joshua Johnson and Alexander Powell and the two Vice Captains are Timothy Chan and Charlie Butler. They looked so proud of themselves and have already been helping out.

Tuesday 15th December

Carol the Camel in progress…..
Thursday 3rd December
J3 are becoming terribly scientific. Today we caught them investigating the properties of different soils.

Wednesday 2nd December
Thank you Mrs Kelly for providing lego as a lovely wet play activity for the boys.

Friday 16th October
Junior 3R made their debut performing their first class assembly of the year all about Halloween. The boys dressed up in various spooky costumes trying to frighten the teachers which I think they did a good job of doing. All the boys performed very confidently and did themselves proud! Well done for a great performance.

And....
The Robots that have been adorning the corridor outside the J3 classrooms are making their way back home, thanks to their proud creators. Good bye, robots - thank you for visiting our school!

Monday 5th October 2009

Junior 3 are in full swing as they have started having golf lessons at West Lancashire Golf Club with professional Gary Edge. The boys are thoroughly enjoying themselves especially when there is a competition and chocolate is involved!!

Friday 25th September 2009
J3 boys are very happy. They are learning all sorts of useful skills, like packing their bags, finding shoes, measuring lines and eating cake in the knowledge that is not exactly healthy. They have all settled in to their new routines easily and are a pleasure to work with
Wednesday 17th June 2009
Harri is just finishing his painted lion, which will appear in Mrs Thomas' room shortly, framed.

Thursday 4th June 2009
Daniel from J3W was awarded the most improved player award from his local rugby team this week. He trains twice a week at Tarlton rugby club and enjoys every minute of it. Well done.

Daniel proudly shows his awards
Thursday 5th February 2009
J3 Boys are willing to sell your Clarice Cliff collection on e bay for their personal gain! To help you recognise her style they have produced these lovely images in their sketch books. A final display will shortly arrive in the hall, along with their ceramic productions.

Also, Year 3's colony of ceramic penguins have made their appearance in John Bebb House.

Wednesday 21st January 2009

This week Junior Three have been investigating The Tangram. This is a square that was invented in China long ago. There are seven pieces that can make up a variety of shapes, including a cat, a rabbit and a boat. The pictures show various J3 boys experimenting with the shapes and trying to make their own shapes.
Wednesday 14th January 2009
J3R took this week's assembly - and they were fabulous! Jamie Spinks wrote to tell us all about it...
The assembly took place in front of the whole of the junior boys and it was about a boy who was very lazy called Donald Simpson. He was lazy at home and at school. His family were ashamed of his laziness and tried to change him.
They decided to say "no" to everything he asked them to do. After just a day he was taught a lesson and he was never lazy again.
The whole of class J3R were involved and performed a brilliant assembly. Massimo was Donald Simpson, Bruce was Mrs. Simpson and Alex S. was Mr.Simpson. They all put on very funny voices. The whole class were great. Well done to all of J3R. We were fantastic.
Thursday 4th December
Year Three have been having some fun classifying rocks as part of their science module about Rocks and Soils. They look deep in thought and Mrs Ashcroft assures me that they worked hard and really enjoyed their work.

Friday 28th November
J3 boys have been busy making Advent Calendars. The boys made the calendars by preparing a background of Christmas trees on to which they hung a cardboard circles with a number on one side and their own design of Christmas picture on the back.Approx 500 cardboard circles had been ribbon-threaded through by Mr Ashcroft, Mrs Lincoln and Mrs A. !!!!! Mrs Carr and Mrs White helped the boys prepare the trees and pictures. Mrs A’s fingers are glued as she has put on all of the circles and herself to the trees!! It seems that she is barely able to type. (shame it hasn’t stopped her talking though! – PAW)
Some pictures ion the gallery below......

Wednesday 19th November
Bruce Davis in Year 3 recently had a fabulous time in Paris. He had seen an advertisment for the Paris Motor Show and spent all of his tiem trying to persuade his parents that he should go to visit the french city.
Lucky for him, his parents took the bait and he got to look around the fantastic vehicles that were on display. He particularly enjoyed looking at the new Ford Ka and explored in detail the new Nissan DT-R, as driven by Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson.
We are all very envious of Bruce's trip and the photos show just what a great time he had.

Tuesday 14th October
Pictured here are two boys from J3W who have been awarded trophies out of school. Kunal achieved man of the match during a competition with his ice hockey team Flintshire JIHC and Daniel was recognised for his outstanding improvement by his football club. Well done to both boys.

Daniel Burns & Tom Coen from Junior 3R attended a special ceremony at the weekend at the Devonshire Hotel. They received their Chief Scouts Bronze Award. The boys were very excited as the Lord Mayor of Liverpool and the County Commissioner awarded the framed certificates. Junior 3 are all very proud of them both. Well Done!!

Friday 10th October
For the next couple of weeks junior three will be creating creepy creative writing, petrifying poems and spine shivering sentences. Some of them decided to get into character to help create a suitable working environment!! Can you guess who they are?

Caleb has written a BRILLIANT story and it is published below....
The Alien
There was once an alien called Dr Goldol. He was green and gooey but only when he was angry. He came from the planet Raxopldolgol ( Rax for short ).
He crashed on his way home and landed on Earth. He was hungry, so he went into town and sucked in loads people without even chewing !
Everyone else ran away and screamed ! He collapsed onto the pavement and turned back into his human body because he wasn't angry anymore.
Suddenly he saw another spaceship land next to him. Dr Dolgol popped his head out and said " Hello !"
Goldol jumped up and smiled. He was happy to see his friend.
"I can't make friends here," he said.
"Shall I help you ?" said Dolgol. Goldol put his thumbs up.
Dolgol said " Go over to Caleb", pointing to a young boy. "Smile and say hello".
Goldol did and the boy didn't run away.
"He must be brave", thought Goldol.
Two days later Goldol had made some new friends.
Dolgol said "If you don't get angry for 3 days you will become good and stay a human on Earth."
Goldol liked that idea. He decided to live on both planets, Rax and Earth, if he managed to be good for one more day.
The next day Goldol was sitting reading his favourite Blob magazine. Suddenly he felt fizzy ! The people that he'd swallowed when he was a green gooey alien walked out of his stomach ! They didn't die because they didn't get chewed. Their friends and family saw them and ran up to them, shocked to see them.
Dr Goldol was skinny again. He was happy at last and he lived on both planets, Rax and Earth, with all his friends and family.
The End.....by Caleb Khan ( written in Help Club ! )
Friday 3rd October
It was a big week in Junior 3 this week and it was decided it was going to be wet 'n' wild!! Finally the swimming pool had opened and all boys were keen to show off their water skills....well if they could get changed quickly and into the appropriate attire in a matter of 10 seconds flat! They all grabbed their bags in haste some boys managed goggles, trunks and swimming caps others were not as well prepared and came half dressed for the occasion...say no more!!
Friday 26th September
Already four weeks have passed and junior three have made great progress. Some of them have even had time to go for Judo lessons. Their addition with carrying is getting better, most of them have learnt what a noun is, had an exciting game of football and they have made the most delicious cakes for the cake sale. Not sure they all made it to the sale - it looks like they may have sampled some first!

Friday 19th September

As Junior three come to the end of their first two full weeks they have created giant robots, met some very loud Japanese drummers, produced some fantastic display work and some of them have even visited Formby Golf club for lessons. They are all settling in well and most of them are even remembering to take home all their kit and homework folders.
Mrs Wynne and Mrs Rogers are very pleased with them and hope they will continue to work hard for the weeks ahead.
