The windy winter morning
The barren bleak trees stand swaying against the gusty winds whistling around my ears and eyes.
The tree held up his thorny arms welcoming the freezing winter.
I watched in despair as his minions froze everything in sight.
Winter's grim laugh echoed through my head, then it dissipated into thin tendrils of air.
Silence enveloped the atmosphere.
All of a sudden!
A pink dot expanded, covering the sky with its magical glow.
A delicate pink cloud drifted away.
I realised it is morning.
Hope blooms.

Another year has gone by and a new group of year 6 boys faced the challenge of constructing bridges, requiring early engineering skills. As can be seen from their faces, they have had a great time and have produced colourful bridges - some with ‘cobwebs' (surplus threads of glue). Fun was had with cars speeding along the roads to test the robustness of their creations.

"Bridging the Gap"
What super progress the boys have made in DT (Design & Technology) and the evidence can be clearly seen in the hands of very proud boys. Bridges made, roads laid just waiting for some model cars! Does yr 6 have budding engineers of the future?

Mrs Ashcroft writes.....
Meticulous work is required from the current yr 6 boys who have started the foundation work in constructing bridges in their Design and Technology classes. Careful placing of circular template sheets and gluing (not too much or too little) are required as well as precision measuring for the cross supports. Evaluating their finished results is an important part, so that they can further their skills.
Watch this space to monitor their progress.

6D have been investigating circuits in their science lessons this term. They really enjoyed making their models, ranging from lighthouses to quiz games. These are a small selection of the great work they produced.
The boys certainly enjoyed learning about circuits because it was such fun.

J6 are looking at war paintings by Paul Nash. They are working towards producing their own war themed picture, here are some examples from their sketch books.

Back from the Christmas break and Year 6 are biting their fingernails and hoping for good results from the entrance exam on Monday. To ease our nerves a little year 6 and 5 have both had pleasing rugby results from our matches against St Mary's as both teams won. On Thursday Year 6 are leaving for an enjoyable trip to the cinema to see Bedtime Stories.
Mr Youngson is holding a Spell-A-Thon and all years will be getting words to learn Furthermore, Mrs Mitchell is holding another creative writing competition and an amazing prize could be won!
Friday 21st November
J6L did an assembly about Nonsense Poems. Sam Edgington wrote one worthy of sharing on the website...
“ I’m not having that!” and the fridge grew legs,
“You always put in sour cheese,
Which makes me queeze.”
“But your a fridge you don’t have feelings,”
“Yes I do especially after loads of vegetable peelings!”
“But you can’t go your mine,”
“If I stay you must stop feeding me grime.”
So the fridge and Sam struck a deal
And the fridge was no longer fed banana peel.

The last week before the half term holidays and Mrs Ashcroft has set up a spectacular experiment for our science lesson, it involves eight test tubes with equal amounts of yeast in each tube. Every tube would have something else in it apart from test tube one. The other materials are salt, sugar, flour and water. The yeast produces carbon dioxide when it has the right materials. We put balloons on the top of each tube. The experiment is to see which balloon will blow up first.
We are also writing personification poems about night. We hope to make a lovely display out of them.

This week started with the harvest festival on Monday followed by Rugby in the afternoon - this was the last chance for the really good players to make sure of their place in the school team which was going to picked by Mr Youngson and Mr Lyon
On Wednesday we began a new topic in art all about perspective with Mrs White. It was hard at first but I think I am getting better - it depends how you look at it. Friday was the choir practice and many of the boys were back in school again on Saturday to help with the open morning. All the people who came were treated to individual tours and the choir sang in the Junior Hall. The display boards were packed with the boys work and the school looked spectacular.
Wednesday 8th October
With the return of Mr Youngson from inspecting a school in Manchester, he is actually being kind to us by giving us joyful long division. Oh great. More brilliant results from the sports teams with a goals galore football win against Stockport 5-1 (James Owen's wrist wasn't broken after all!) A another Stockport victory, this time the swimming team and the U11 rugby team are getting ready to play Kirkham on Monday. Well done to J5W fore a great harvest festival assembly, but Mr Wardle's pants look ridiculous! Mrs Davies keeps saying they're jeans!
Friday 3rd October
Mr Howard was his normal brilliantly funny self, making French lessons a real hit with the whole of J6.
Art this week for J6L saw the completion of the Japanese scrolls. They look brilliant; maybe we should try sushi for school dinners next week.
This Thursday, at long last, the swimming pool was re-opened much to the delight of Joseph (J6L) and Matthew (J6Y) who have been like fish out of water (ha ha) in the last few weeks.
Today (Friday 3rd October) from 8.30am until 12pm in the Junior Hall we are having a coffee morning for parents and teachers. This will be part two of raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Good luck and thanks to everyone involved.
Friday 26th Saptember
Back to work again after a very thrilling trip to Newlands. Mr Youngson and Mr Lyon are giving us lots of extra work, with lots of long multiplication there is plenty of sums to get done. We are having extra rugby practices to prepare our U11 rugby team for the upcoming match against Kirkham, and to brush up the weak parts of the defence and attack of our determined team. The football teams will also try their best for their match against Arnold. By Charlie Harrocks
After Mr Whalley's fitness training on Thursday this week for all of Year 6, we're very lucky to be alive!
In art this week, J6L continued on with Japanese scrolls. Hopefully, they will be good enough to be displayed on the stairs at the back of the art room.
Today we have science (favourite subject) but even more importantly there is a cake sale to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Appeal. So get your money out and buy buy buy, eat eat eat.
But not too many for you Mr Wardle!

Monday 22 September
Today Year 6 entertained a new boy, Toby, who was having a look round the school as his parents are moving up to the North-West. Damon and Stephen took Toby on a school tour. Otherwise it was the normal dull stuff- Maths and a lovely comprehension.
Mr Y a bit depressed about Spurs being bottom of league, so he is Mr Grumpy.
Marco remembered his reading diary! (a first)
