Under 11 Rugby v St Mary's College

Monday 31 October

MTS 75 St Mary's 0
After a disappointing loss in their first match of the season against Kirkham, the team bounced back to record an emphatic win. The match, however, was not as one sided as the score suggests with rivals St Mary's dominating the scrums and competing strongly in the forwards throughout. Our boys deserve a lot of credit for defending with determination and attacking with flair. Great running and support play in the backs created most of the 11 tries scored with Y5 boys Jones and Powell proving elusive runners on their debut. Gradually the forwards gained control with Patrick Halpin working tirelessly to secure possession in the loose and Dunne making some powerful runs. Skipper Massimo Poli ran intelligently at fly half and his tackling inspired the team to greater efforts. Coulthurst stepped up from the B team for his first appearance in the ‘A' in the absence of Morris, and gave a very solid performance. Excellent contributions from Booth and Thorpe on the wing confirmed the talent in the side. Let's hope that the confidence gained here is carried over into the more difficult matches ahead.
Team: Buxton, Halpin, Robb, Scott H, Dunne, Coulthurst, Poli (capt), Powell, Thorpe, Booth, Jones.
