7th June 2011 - MTS U11 Cricket v King's Macclesfield

MTS U11 Cricket v King's Macclesfield
Tuesday 7 June (away) AJIS Cup

The weather looked gloomy at times and so did our prospects defending a reasonable score of 93 in twenty overs. To the team's credit their fighting qualities came through and we took the last 7 Kings wickets for 22 runs in 12 tense overs to win by 13, and now face Bury G S in the next round on 17 June.

Our batters had found it hard going against two lively and accurate opening bowlers and a slow outfield. Sweeney was soon back in the hutch and Soin followed him, but Hodkinson stuck around to enjoy himself against the change bowlers, hitting two sixes in his 29 not out (retired). Thereafter good little partnerships developed with McComb, Powell, Carlyle and Wall to give us a par total, which could have been more had we shown greater alacrity in taking singles.

Carlyle opened the bowling with a tidy spell and three wickets, but our others bowlers were taking some punishment for bowling too short. Agarwal came on to bowl beautifully with clever flight and guile, causing problems for all the batters. He was unlucky to finish with only one wicket but his spell had started to change the game. McComb and Jones-Farley then put a stanglehold on the batting, which subsided to 80 all out.

A satisfying win in the end, but there is a lot of work to do before the next round. Tough matches lie ahead against Grange on Thursday (9th) and Chester on Friday (10th).
