AJIS Quiz Tournament 2011

On the 12th of November 2011, Merchant Taylors' Junior Boys' School Quiz team travelled to Abbey Gate College in Chester for the AJIS Annual Quiz Competition. The members of the quiz team were Jonathan Liu, Rahul Panniker, Udit Mahalingham, Ehren Agarwal and Shivaum Bapu.
In total there were ten rounds. The first round was called Super Starts and Fabulous Finishers. In this round we had to name the book or famous saying that the starter or end came from. In ‘Who said that?' we had to write identify a famous quote. For ‘Bio...logical' we had to name bones of the human body and for ‘Location, Location, Location' we had to use our geographical skills.
On the table we had to complete a pair of quizzes whenever we had time in the first half. They were; ‘What do they stand for' (Acronyms) and ‘Who is that?' (You had to name some famous actors and celebrities).

After a fifteen minute break, the second half started. Merchant Taylors Junior School at that moment were 2 points behind the leader Kings Chester and in third place was Bolton Boys' Junior School.
The rounds in the second half were:
• Second Place (Name who came second)
• To Be or Not To Be' (A multiple choice round on Shakespeare plays)
• ‘Observation Round' (We had to answer questions about a short clip)
• ‘Specific Ignorance' (General Knowledge)
• ‘Sound Bites' (Music was played to us and we had to answer questions about what it is called or what programme is it from)
In the end we came third, 2 points behind the joint winners Bolton Boys, who had come back into the game, and the team from Kings Chester. There was a tiebreak question and Bolton boys beat Kings Chester despite the fact that the team from Kings was in first place for the majority of the time. The final question was ‘What is Addis Ababa the capital city of?' but Bolton got the question right before the quiz master even said the word city in the question. (Addis Ababa is the capital of Ethiopia.)

I would like to say thank you to all the members of the quiz team for trying so hard and managing to achieve 3rd place out of 13 schools and I would also like to thank our representative (and resident brainbox) Mrs Bonfante.
