Stockport six a side tournament
Six of our finest lads went to Stockport for a tournament involving 12 teams from around the north-west. They played some terrific cricket and showed great tenacity in reaching the final (only the second time in 20 years we have done this), eventually losing to the hosts.
We started out with a comfortable win against SGS B team passing their 5 over total with ease. Next came a stiffer challenge in the form of a strong Bolton side. We held our nerve to defend a modest 41 score, with Soin pulling off a superb run out from a throw from the boundary to dismiss their top batter. In the semi final we easily chased down a total of 36 set by Bury Grammar; another good knock here from Hodkinson featuring a towering 6 over mid wicket. However in the final we came up against a rather special player who took our bowling apart and then tied us down by bowling a very tight over. We never recovered and fell well short of the target.
It was an enjoyable though tiring day out and the boys can be proud to get to the final in such a tough competition.
They were:
Maitland (c and w), Hodkinson, Soin, Carlyle, Wall, McComb, Powell
