J5 and J6 Play - Not such a 'Grimm Night' after all!

Grimm 4

On Thursday 5th July, J5 and J6 put on a play entitled ‘A Grimm Night for Hans Christian Andersen' by Sue Gordon.  It was a musical play which was based on the stories of The Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, with a difference.

Grimm Night 2

The story revolved around The Brothers Grimm accusing Hans Christian Andersen of ‘retelling' their stories but also involved many of the characters from their stories being very unhappy with their stories ...and particularly some of the gruesome endings.

Year 6 were acting this year  - and they were fabulous!  Charlie Beckett and Alex March were the Brothers,  while Andersen was played by Josh Edey.  There were so many excellent actors, but Michael Barber as the Ugly Duckling and Jacob Lewis as the Narrator/TV Presenter were outstanding.

One of the highlights of the show was the dance, involving ‘Mr Red Shoes' himself, Mark Farrell, together with a troupe of dancers who were professionally choreographed specially for the show.

Year 5 provided the music superbly and they added such a lot to the show.  Toby Sherriff also features, playing his German baritone to start of the proceedings.

Grimm Night 1

The costumes were provided by the Year 6 parents and looked fantastic.  Alex Wall as the Doll,  Josh Molloy as the Mermaid and Michael Barber as the Ugly Duckling all looked fantastic, helped by some wonderful makeup.

The audience laughed their socks off in all of the right places and gave a really enthusiastic response at the end of the play.  Mr Cook, Head of Merchant Taylors' Boys School commented that he had not laughed as much for a long time.  We laughed along too and really enjoyed it.

Well done to all of the boys and staff who helped to put on such a memorable show.
