Junior School Choir explode onto the MTS Summer Pops
Our choir sang at the recent Summer Pops on the school field. Sam East has written about it...and there's some good photos in the gallery too!
A CD of the Beatles Medleys is available - donations (suggested minimum £3) to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Appeal.
MTBS playing field was a hive of activity last week, as a large metal structure started to take shape. This was to be our stage for the Summer Pops, an important event which took place on Saturday 28th June. All four schools were involved, so this was set to be a fun, high-powered choral event.
We opened with our joint Liverpool Medley. This was a fantastic variety of songs all with a Liverpool theme, composed by MTGS piano teacher Mrs Burgoyne.
Shortly after this, the Concert and Swing Bands from MTBS performed a variety of songs - the Family Guy theme (!) and Somewhere Over the Rainbow are two examples, along with a large amount of Queen and Grease songs - very enjoyable!
Following on from this, Stanfield sang a fantastic mix of songs, from Yellow Submarine to The Battle Of Jericho, culminating in Rhythm of Life.
Then we had a performance from our Junior School band, who played five songs, beginning with the exciting Can Can, and ending with the fabulous Obladi Oblada.
Next up, a Spanish band, BarrioViejo, who sang many songs from their Album Bioritmo.
Following on from this was our MTBS Junior Choir, with the Beatles Medleys!
The dance moves we had with the songs were well choreographed by Mrs Harrocks, who guided us through them well, even if there were constant cries of ‘FREEZE!'!
We started off with Hello - Goodbye, and continued through the first Medley very successfully.
Our second Medley was the better one though: It started steadily and was well done, until we reached When I'm Sixty-Four and Penny Lane, where it got rather hilarious, with boys dressed as girls (naming no names!) a car with umbrellas for wheels, and a pretend barber's shop (some boys must have very pointy fingers) and it ended on a high note with All You Need Is Love.
Next up was Louise Gregg of MTGS, who sang an amazing rendition of Feeling Good (Nina Simone), which certainly made the audience feel good!
Following this were the ‘Liquorice Slick' Clarinet Quartet, who played some great numbers which entertained the audience. The performance certainly was slick!
Next was the MTGS Senior Girls, singing: Thank you for the Music first, with a medley from Sister Act following, and Here With Me and Angels to round off an excellent performance.
Finally - ETON ROAD! Their songs were fantastic, with some from the new album, and there was much cheering from boys, girls, and parents/family alike.
The final number, Lonely, gave a fantastic atmosphere, as ALL the children were invited onto the stage to sing with them.
The sound, needless to say, was fantastic - and was a great way to round of another fantastic MTS musical event!
