Kieran's Rugby report Vs St Mary's - 12th November

On Monday the 12th November M.T.S. played St Marys.

We were a man down to start with, as on Sunday, Tom Cannon, one of our props, had broken his ankle playing for Waterloo Rugby Club.

We started off well with the forwards winning 75% of the rucks, mauls, scrums and line outs. Fantastic, powerful play by Patrick Hegarty, Will Church, and Centre Andre Lambrenos. The first try came from a great passing move to Matty Virtue, who ran through most of the St Marys team with his speed and agility. A conversion followed from the boot of Harry Yip ( As seen on TV ! Yes, He's famous)

Our confidence was now building as Mr Bennett and Mr Cook were watching us. We had some more great runs from Andre Lambrenos, Jack Grant, Matty Virtue and Greg Rawsthorne .

Just before the second half, Jack Grant & I got a 2 on 1 on the St Marys winger and Jack went in for the line, but didn't quite make it so he passed to Liam Jackson, who took the ball over the line for another try. The conversion was made by "Mr Autograph" Harry Yip.

The second half was a fierce battle, with both sets of forwards working hard up and down the pitch. In the final moments St Marys got the ball and had a great run down the wing, and looked like it was a certain try. But Matty Virtue saved the day with a fantastic defensive run and crushing tackle that floored the St Marys flyhalf.

Other players of mention were Oliver Morris, who came on as Super Sub, in the forwards, and Liam "Scrapper" Jackson who carried on after getting a kick to the head!

The final score was MTS 14 - St Marys 0.

(Great report,  Kieran - Thanks! - PW)
