Merchant Taylors' v Kirkham Grammar School - Match Report by James O'Sullivan.

On Saturday 8th October Merchant Taylors' U9 rugby team turned up at school on a cloudy and dim morning to play Kirkham Grammar School. It was our first outing playing for the school so we all felt proud, excited and nervous because we knew Kirkham were a very good side.
From the start Kirkham proved to be a very difficult team to beat. We really wanted to win but we gave away the ball too easily which allowed Kirkham to score their first try, but that didn't mean that we stopped trying our hardest. Unfortunately Kirkham scored several more tries before half time. Mr. Benbow gave us a very encouraging pep talk and we came out for the second half keen to play better. Harvey was very quick running down the wing, nearly scoring a try. James Booth and Ben M-T put some great tackles in, there was some determined rucking by Max Jackson and me and amazing passes from all the team, in particular Teddy and Ellis.
The final score was 9-0 to Kirkham. I am sure that after a few more training sessions we will be a lot harder to beat. Well done to everybody that played that day.
