New Head of Early Years

Our new Head of Early Years is set to develop the already ‘outstanding provision' as recognised by the Independent Schools' Inspectorate earlier this year.

Clare Watkin began her teaching career in 1999 having trained in teaching children from three to eight years old. As Foundation Stage Manager at a large primary school in Halton, Clare also led infant and junior choirs and was responsible for establishing a well-respected string group.

Prior to joining, Clare said, "Having grown up in Liverpool I was very familiar with the excellent reputation of the Merchant Taylors' Schools and, on visiting the Stanfield for the first time, was greatly impressed by the warm and friendly atmosphere created by the staff and children. Equally impressive were the facilities and high level of specialist expertise on-hand to teach, motivate and inspire the children. Even children in Reception can benefit from this specialist teaching and, with class sizes much smaller than those often found in other schools, children receive a curriculum tailored to meet their individual needs." She now intends to build on the already excellent curriculum, to ensure that we continue to provide the ‘Best Education for Life'.

Clare has also been tasked with building closer links with our feeder nursery schools, ensuring a smooth transition for children into our Reception classes which we know will be reassuring for both pupils and parents. She said, "I hope to liaise with our feeder schools to build opportunities for both children and parents to visit and spend time at Stanfield thus enabling everyone to get to know each other before they join us in the September. I am really looking forward to the new role and being part of a team of dedicated teaching staff and nursery nurses who work so enthusiastically as a strong and cohesive unit."
