2020vision Merchants Connected ArchivesNorth West Independent Schools' Swimming Gala Report
Merchant Taylors' Junior School were the hosts for the North West Independent Schools' Swimming Gala on October 16th. Our team took part in a gala of the highest quality between the cream of the top swimming schools in the region.
The gala was superbly organised by Mr. Whalley with help from staff and pupils. Fourteen schools took part and only four boys could reach the final of each event.
Merchants' did really well to reach the final of most events in the two age groups( Y5 and Y6 ).
Our U10 team achieved outstanding results, winning both the Medley and Freestyle relays. Individually, Harry May won gold in the 25m backstroke in a competition record time of 18.89 seconds. William Gilby won the 25m butterfly and Matthew Parslew was the 25m breaststroke champion.
Other notable successes were as follows:
Ethan Clarke 2nd - U10 medley
Oliver Morris - 3rd - U11 25m butterfly
Oliver Perkins-Brown 3rd - U11 50m backstroke
James Head- Rapson 4th - U10 25m freestyle
Kieran Paxton 4th U11 - 50m breaststroke
Toby Sherriff 4th U11 - 50 m freestyle
U11 medley relay team - 4th
If we had a trophy for the overall winners, Merchants' would have been winners by a handsome margin. Congratulations to all those who took part in the gala!

They swim like fishes (some of them look like fishes too!)
