Phil Wardle

Phil

I attended West Derby Comprehensive School until 1977, achieving a most unimpressive 4 ‘O' Levels. I worked for Nat West Bank for 19 years before realising that I was in the wrong job. (I'm a little slow!).

I then decided to go to Liverpool Hope University College to do an Access Course, followed by a 4 year B.Ed (Hons) course, studying Education and ICT. I surprised myself by achieving a first class honours degree!!

I have been at Merchant Taylors' since I graduated in 2001. This year I am returning to Year 5, following a brief excursion into the world of Year 4, as well as being co-ordinator for ICT, together with the important issues relating to Child Protection. I am the Junior School representative on the Staff/Governors' Liaison Committee. I also take some responsibility for publicity and marketing in the junior school, which includes the maintenance of  this website. I teach ICT and music as my specialities.

I have taken on the role of 'Grandmaster of the Chessboard' which is quite a challenge as I haven't played for nearly 40 years (though I do know that there are two horses involved somewhere - Mrs Wynne told me!) I am helping to foster relationships with a local primary school so that they can benefit from our chess - and so we can have different opponents to play with. My other responsibilities include the filling of the kettle each morning, telling really bad jokes - and getting abuse from both staff and boys for tellling such poor funnies - and arranging staff dos. Such is life.

I have been married to Karen since 1984 and we have two great(ish) kids, Chris and Rebecca, without whom I would be a very rich man.

I have a growing selection of guitars, CDs and DVDs. I have also discovered the amazing world of Blu Ray too. I love music of all types, particularly rock, and I enjoy singing any which way I can, much to the annoyance of my colleagues! I love watching films - my favourite film being the amazing AVATAR - check out my own Avatar below...I think it makes me look better!  For some reason, people seem to like to do nasty things to me (custard pies in my face/buckets of water over my head) although, to be fair, it does tend to be for some charity or other so I don't mind really. (Did I really say that??)

In an effort to make myself look even more distinguished and mature, I spend hours dyeing the sides of my hair grey. It's not really grey.....honest! I also spend hours of my life trying to maintain my six-pack - actually it's more like a 12- pack or even a family pack... helped by the toast at morning break and the excellent lunches. I enjoy drinking Guinness and wine (together with copious amounts of tea) and the endless supply of chocolate and sweets that seem to arrive on my desk. I am a fan of the wonderful Everton FC who, I hope, will get themselves sorted some time in the near future.
