READATHON 2008

Grandma

Year 6, who have been wondering how to fill the hours of slack time post entrance exam, need wonder no more. Mr Youngson and Mr Lyon have thought of a devilishly good wheeze to keep their charges usefully employed through February and March. The teachers will be passing round the cigars and encouraging everyone to put their feet up in a comfy chair with a good book as part of Readathon 2008.

Readathon has been raising vast sums for children's charities, such as CLIC, since 1984 and this year MTS boys will have the opportunity to make their own contribution to worthwhile causes while enjoying some cracking good reads.

The whole thing kicks off on 18 February when celebrated author David Webb (Tim Travis, Time Traveller) visits the School to lead a writing workshop where Y6 pupils will be able to hone their narrative skills and learn how to create great characters in their stories. This will be followed up with some extra special creative writing lessons culminating on March 6th - World Book Day.

On that day Year 5 boys will take the short walk to the Civic Hall in Crosby where they will meet award winning author Anne Fine (Flour Babies, Ivan The Terrible) and listen to her ideas on fiction. On the same day Y6 boys will meet Joseph Delaney (Spooks) who is also giving a talk at the Civic Hall. The boys will have the chance to spend their World Book Day vouchers on signed copies from all of the above authors.

Years 3 and 4 will also be taking part in Readathon 2008- further details regarding sponsorship etc will be sent home soon.

If parents are interested in meeting Anne Fine, She will be giving a talk about her work for all ages on March 6th at the Civic Hall from 7pm till 9pm. Contact Sefton Leisure Services for further information.
