Under 9 match vs Kings Macclesfield
17th November 2011
Score 2-1 to Merchant Taylors (Harvey Locke-Edmunds, Tom Baybutt-Scull)
On the 17th November the Under 9s A Team played Kings Maccelsfield in football. When we got out of the minibus and walked to the changing rooms we were very nervous and we smacked our bags down because our shoulders were aching. When we got to the field we did some training skills and got into position for the game. Mr O'Shaughnessy blew the whistle and we were off. After some good pressure from the boys we won the ball and had a break down the line with Harvey who took the shot and smashed it into the bottom corner where he scored. They took kick off knowing they were one nil down. Merchants did not let down and we stopped for half time winning one nil.
We took kick off and the game started again. They soon had an early break and slotted it past me in the roof of the goal. One all game on. The game carried on and neither team were better until the last minute when Tom scored an amazing goal into the middle of the net. Well done to all the boys for such a good and close game. The final score was 2-1 to us.
Report by Ben Maitland.
Team: Maitland, Locke-Edmunds, Reed, Carragher, Moores-Pearce, Baybutt-Scull, Jackson and Spencer.
Manager's notes.
Yesterday saw our toughest test of the season so far and I was pleased with the spirit and determination of the team. All credit to the Kings Macclesfield who played very well, both goalkeepers made some fantastic saves throughout the match. On Monday we play Bury Grammar (Home) and we hope the current run of good form continues. Thank you to all the spectators who came to watch and encourage the team. The B team report will be on the website shortly.
The B Team were also in action. Marcus Baldwin takes up the story...
Merchant Taylors' B Team vs Kings' Macclesfield
On the 17th November Merchants' Year 4 B Team took on King's Macclesfield. They won the toss and kicked off, making quick breaks through our midfield but Max Davies and I wouldn't let them through. Then we attacked down their right wing and Sam Regan passed it to William Tate who had a shot but it came off one of the defender's hands, penalty!
James Booth stepped up, took the penalty but unfortunately put it over the bar - hard luck James!
Then the whistle blew for half time, Mr McKie gave us a good team talk and in no time at all we were back on the pitch again. We kicked off but gave away an early goal. Soon we were outnumbered in our own box and they had a shot at goal which skimmed under my legs and went in. We kicked off a third time and James Booth dummied the defender and hit it past the goalie making up for his earlier miss. The final whistle blew 2-1. Well done to everyone who took part. My man of the match was Max Davies for excellent defending.
