Under 9s Merchants v Grange

A word from Mr O'Shaughnessy

A good start to the year with two wins in our first two fixtures. The year group is very keen and we're pleased to offer the opportunity for two teams to represent the school in these fixtures. We have two upcoming fixtures in the upcoming weeks against Kings Macclesfield next Thursday (Away 2pm) and Bury Grammar on the 21st November (home 2:15pm). The A team were also able to wear our new school football kits ordered from Kukri, as you can see from the photograph the boys look very professional and they loved selecting their number before the match. Thank you to the parents and spectators who have supported the team in the first few fixtures.

Under 9 A Team report vs Grange

On Monday 7th November merchant Taylors' played Grange at Hall Road. Grange had a green and white kit and of course our kit was orange and black. Grange kicked off but after a few minutes we took the lead with Tom. Harvey had played a great ball into him. Ben "The Cat" made some good saves as Grange tried to get an equaliser, then I hit the crossbar going into half time. With the score 1-0 at half time Mr O'Shaughnessy said we need to keep going what we had been doing in the first half and we will have a good chance to win. Merchants kicked off and again we scored another early goal as I ran down the line and cut inside and took the ball past he last defender and toe-pocked the ball past the goalkeeper. Jamie then scored our third goal by coming in from the left hand side and cutting in to score bottom corner with his right peg. Grange had some long range efforts to get back in the game but then I scored my hat-trick goal to put the icing on the cake with a run down the line but Jamie was there. I said in my head "it's for my hat-trick" so I took it and scored as the final whistle blew. The final score was 5-0 to Merchants but both teams gave 100% effort and can be proud of their performance. Well done to all the boys who played in the match it was a great win.

We kicked off having a tough start but Oliver Spencer set me up and I went for the goal but the keeper took a great save and blocked my shot, I then passed back to Max. It was a hard half but we played well.
Half time

Now after a good team talk by Mr Youngson we concentrated a bit more on the match in this half and I set James Booth up and hit the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0. Grange kicked off and we played and played until James Booth shot the ball into the back of 2-0. Grange kicked off and equalised to make it 2-1. We kicked off and one of Grange player's got the ball and scored 2-2. Well done to everybody that played in the match. Thank you to Mr Youngson and Mr McKie.
