2020vision Merchants Connected ArchivesVictory in swimming match against Bolton
On Tuesday the swimming team went to Bolton, who are probably the most consistently strong team we have faced during the past ten years. A strong team selection was needed. Despite some late withdrawals, through illness and injury, and a frantic scramble to draft in replacements, we where quietly confident that the team had sufficient talent and strength to extend our unbeaten run.
Backed by the vociferous support of our travelling parents, the whole team pushed Bolton all the way in their home waters.
Our under 9's, including three relatively inexperienced swimmers from J3, fought hard all the way with Perry Sanders, in particular, swimming superbly in the breaststroke, almost breaking the school record (a record that is sure to tumble before the season is over). For all their combined efforts they finished 3 points behind Bolton.
Our under 11's gave their all with wins in the breaststroke and butterfly from Kieran Paxton and Josh Robson but Bolton proved to be too strong, enjoying victory in both relay events leaving us a further 20 points adrift.
The under 10's did exceptionally well with Harry May and William Gilby earning maximum points in backstroke, immediately reducing the overall deficit by 5 points, Matthew Parslew and Ethan Clark winning the breaststroke and butterfly, closing the gap a further 6 points. With both ‘A' & ‘B' relay teams claiming victory against their counterparts in both events the wait was on for the final result.

As the results came through from the announcer, one team of swimmers and their supporters cheered loudly. Luckily for us the swimmers and supporters with the biggest smile were ours: Bolton 126 points M.T.S. 127 PHEW!!!!
