Year 4 get all CRABBY down at Crosby Marina

The date on the video above should be 29th June, not 29th March....ooops! I couldn't change it, sorry.  Good though innit??

We are SO lucky to have a school so near to the fabulous Crosby Marina.  We paid a visit to the Marine, led by science teacher, Mrs Byrne, from the Boys' Senior School.

Year 4 went crabbing at Crosby Marina. Chris Simpson writes...

Our trip to Crosby Marina
On Wednesday 29th June 2011 J4 junior boys went on a school trip to Crosby Beach & Marina. We set off in pairs at 9:00am and walked towards the beach while Mr Wardle went in his car (cheat), after we arrived at the Marina Miss Byrne and Mr Wardle allowed us to have 10 minutes in the playground while they discussed and planed our day. There were lots of activities in the playground like zip wire and a big bumpy slide.
Time for our first activity which was crabbing.
The first thing we had to do was to get the crabbing line ready, we had to find a stone half the size of your finger, we had bacon for the bait and we had to wrap the stone and the bacon together with the crab line and tied a knot. Mrs Byrne said " when you catch the crabs they will be hanging on the bacon like Mr Wardle does with cake" it was really funny. (Oh yeah, very funny!! - PAW)
We then split into groups and went to the crabbing area, we stuck out heads through the fence and threw out the lines, waited a few minutes then pulled the line in and there were crabs hanging onto the bacon, they then went into a tray. Altogether we must have caught over 50 crabs, all different sizes some of them were really big with large pincers. Don't worry we threw then all back.
Next we walked down to the sand dues to have our lunch(crab sandwiches all round).
After lunch we went onto the beach and had a good run around and we walked right up to the Anthony Gormley statues, they are made of Iron and they look like real people from a distance just looking out in to the sea. It was funny because we were allowed to climb on them and pretend to have a piggy back.
Mr Wardle had a good idea for sand castle competition, we were split into groups of 3 and 4 I was with Alex Powel and Max. We made a fantastic castle which had a smiley face on it made with shells. In fact it was so good that we won the competition and got a book as a prize.
Just time for an ice cream before it was time to head back to school, by this time we were all exhausted and it seemed to take forever to walk back ( come on Mr Wardle you could have given us a lift) it was up hill.
We had an amazing and fantastic day out.
