On October 1st, Y4 visited Rufford Old Hall in connection with their history studies on the Tudors.
The morning was spent in the Great Hall, where the girls learned about the Tudor monarchs and the Hesketh family who once lived at the hall. They found out about the construction of the building and the secret of the priest's hiding hole! They then played some Tudor games, took part in a role play of serving a banquet, learned Tudor dances and even enjoyed a magic show by the jester!
In the afternoon the girls had a guided tour of the rest of the house, which is now furnished with a variety of artefacts from Tudor to Victorian. They enjoyed looking at the table set for dinner in the dining room, the gentleman's study, the lady's dressing room and contents of her wardrobe and the schoolroom set out with toys and books.
It is visits such as this, which bring history to life for adults and children alike and give us a valuable insight into life in the past. We are grateful to the Rufford education staff for their enthusiasm and the mothers who gave their time to help.
