Year 5 & reception reading together
The Infant section of the school is co-educational. The curriculum is wide and balanced to stimulate and encourage learning and great emphasis is placed on achieving a sound understanding of reading, writing and number work.
At Stanfield we focus on each individual achieving his or her full potential.
We stimulate curiosity and provide the knowledge and skills for each child to become an independent learner. Children work hard, become confident in their own ability and excited about their learning.
Time is always available for those children who need extra support. Our aim is to see all our children flourish and discover their talents.
The Junior section of the school is single sex. The curriculum encompasses all subjects relating to Key Stage 2 of the National Curriculum usually reaching well beyond their basic requirements. Music, Drama, ICT, French and Sport are all taught by specialist staff.
As they progress through the school, the girls take increasing ownership of their learning. They become sufficiently self-assured to push the boundaries for themselves and respond positively to the pace of learning set by the teachers. At the same time the curriculum is rigorously planned, teaching is well resourced, delivered with imagination and supported by a wide range of learning strategies.

Piano lessons
All children have class music lessons with a specialist teacher where they have the opportunity to play a wide range of instruments, to learn to read music and to enjoy singing. Peripatetic Music lessons also take place in piano, woodwind, brass, strings and voice. There are two school orchestras, a mini orchestra to encourage the pleasure of sharing music making and a full orchestra which develops the love of playing together at a high level.
Regular concerts and productions during the academic year ensure all children have the opportunity and experience of performing in public.

Sports
Sport takes place on a regular basis for all pupils. Specialist staff enables all pupils to reach a high standard in swimming, hockey, netball, gymnastics, dance and athletics. There are lunchtime and after school practices in all sports. Our fixture list against schools in the Independent and Maintained sector is extensive and the girls have achieved considerable success
There is a flourishing House system which further encourages good discipline and work habits.
The House system extends to the very youngest pupils and merit marks are awarded for high standards of work and behaviour. Merit badges are awarded weekly for those with the most marks.
All classes enjoy the opportunity of outside visits to places of interest, which pertain to the curriculum. An adventure holiday is offered on an annual basis to the girls in their final year in the Junior school.

Partnership with Parents
We place great emphasis on the importance of regular communication between School and parents.
The Headmistress and staff are available for consultation whenever the need arises. More formal opportunities are provided at Parents Evenings. We are committed to an ‘open door' policy - the earlier the discussion the better.
The School has a Parent' Association for social functions which parents are automatically members of.
