Hockey plays a major part in the sporting life of Stanfield. Pupils are introduced to the game in Reception, and continue to develop their skills through regular lessons in Years 1 and 2.

At Junior level the Year 3 and 4 girls have a weekly lesson at Stanfield, whilst the year5 and 6 girls are taken by bus to the local astroturf to play. We have regular fixtures against other Independent schools and play in a number of tournaments in the North west of England .

Annually we compete in the National Mini hockey championships, which begins at local level with the County Championships . We have been county champions for the past three year and recently became North of England Champions and subsequently represented the North in the National finals. Following this tournament we were placed 4 th in the whole of England .

Many of the girls who begin their hockey with us ,go on to be selected for County, Regional, and National teams.

The girls at Stanfield begin a formal swimming programme at the beginning of year three. Years 3,4,5 and 6 participate in weekly lessons at our 25metre pool situated at the MTS site.

The girls are taught general water skills with the emphasis being on developing good stroke technique on each of the four strokes. In year 6 they undertake a personal survival programme at the end of the summer term to increase their awareness of water safety and survival skills.

Stanfield boasts a strong swimming team. Team training takes place for an hour after school each Monday. The team get involved in inter school swimming matches both at home and away and to date they have enjoyed an excellent match record.

Each year we compete in a number of Championship Events including the AJIS Swimming Championships (which we hosted at MTS in November 2004), The IAPS National Swimming Championships in Wolverhampton, and the National Primary Schools Swimming Championships, the finals of which are held in Sheffield. Stanfield have been finalists in the National Primary Schools Championships in four of the last five years and in 2003 they succeeded in winning two silver medals at the finals confirming their place one of the fastest teams in the country.
