Year 3 visit Chester

On Friday the 26th of September class 3R and 3BR went to Roman Chester. As they got on the bus everyone was excited.  When we arrived we met our guide, she showed us to the Roman

market. We found out about what Romans ate. They ate lots of meat such as stuffed dormice, swans and fish guts. They ate lots of vegetables as well. We saw some face pots and metal pans. There were lots of questions! Romans used beetle blood, beetroot and berries to dye cloth. Everyone rushed to feel the Roman materials.

The lady showed us an example of the bath house. She described how they put oil on their bodies and removed it with a strigil. We came into a room and watched a film about old Roman objects found under the ground. We walked and saw old Roman and Saxon ruins. When we went outside we met a Roman soldier, his name was Walkers Crispus. He showed us how to fight and use a shield. I tried on some head armour, it was very heavy! The soldier showed us the Roman amphitheatre and where they fought animals like bears and bulls.

Then we had to get on the bus to come back to school, but everyone wanted to stay in Chester. I hope we get an experience like this again.
