Constitution
1. The pool will be open to members of the Club at organised and pre-arranged club sessions only. At all sessions there will be a minimum of two adults present on duty at the pool side, one of whom must have passed the examination for the Royal Life Saving Society's Bronze Medallion.
2. Any person who is obstructive: or whose behaviour threatens the safety, or enjoyment of other members, may be ordered out of the pool or refused entry to the pool by the Duty Officer.
3. All persons using the pool do so at their own risk. In the interest of safety, all swimmers must obey any instructions given by the Duty Officers and maintain quiet and orderly behaviour.
4. In the event of an emergency the Duty Officer will sound three blasts on a whistle and all persons must then leave the water at once.
5. Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied in the water or supervised at the pool side by an accompanying adult. Non-swimmers must wear armbands or other approved aids, unless told otherwise by the Duty Officer.
6. Non-swimmers of any age must not go out of their depth.
7. Diving is restricted to the plunge and racing start at the deep end only and the surface dive.
8. Nothing may be taken into the water except armbands for non-swimmers, floats and racing goggles. Balls and snorkels are not allowed. Flippers may be used at the discretion of the Duty Officer.
9. The use of swimming caps is encouraged. Hair can be a major cause of trouble in the filtration plant.
10. Running on the pool surround is forbidden.
11. Smoking is not permitted in any part of the building. Dogs are not allowed in the building. Consumption of food/drink on the premises is not permitted.
12. Spectators are permitted at the pool side. Any parent or responsible adult, who must be at the pool side, must bring and change into gym shoes or other light footwear.
13. Swimming will be limited to forty persons at any one time. Should there be more than this number arriving and wishing to swim, the Duty Officer has the right to impose a time limit on individuals.
14. All swimmers must leave the water promptly at the end of each session. The Duty Officer must check that the pool is clear. Members are expected to co-operate fully in leaving the pool and changing rooms clean and tidy. Duty Officers are responsible for ensuring that everyone is off the premises before they leave themselves. All members are requested to leave the pool and premises as quietly as possible.
15. The club is not responsible for any loss or damage to members' or visitors' property and all articles are brought to the pool at their owners' risk.
16. It may be necessary, from time to time, to close the pool for technical reasons or for cleaning. Whenever possible advance notice of closure will be given.
17. Cars will be parked on the parade ground. All other areas of the School and grounds are out of bounds to members.
18. Outdoor shoes should not be worn when walking along the pool side.
19. The Duty Officer must know how to use the resuscitator. The Duty Officer must know the location of the resuscitator, first aid equipment and telephone.
20. A safety pole must be available at the poolside.
21. All members are required to observe the Club rules and to obey any proper instructions by Duty Officers while at the Swimming pool.
22. Each member is entitled to bring one guest only at any one session.
23. Only recognised swimwear should be worn in the pool, except for training and examinations in life saving.
These rules were discussed in detail at Steering Committee meetings on the 24/05/1978 and 17/06/1978. They were subsequently amended in committee on the 13/01/1987 and 26/06/2000.
Members and Duty Officers are reminded that Duty Officers are responsible for maintaining discipline at the Swimming pool.
Members must not use School property, with the exception of diving bricks and floats, at the discretion of the Duty Officer. These items must not be abused.
