Work Experience

MTGS

The Work Placement Scheme aims to give the girls practical experience in the workplace and allows them to make more informed decisions about their future careers.

Work placements are usually undertaken at the end of Year 11 during the summer holidays and there is also a second opportunity during the Lower Sixth. The majority of placements are for one week's duration.

Girls will have pre and post placement interviews to ensure that they get the most out of these opportunities.

Placements cover a wide variety of career areas including medicine, law, dentistry, retailing, surveying and accountancy to name for a few.

Some of the comments from placements:

'What surprised me about journalism was the importance of working as a team. The confidence, communication, IT and team skills I learnt are invaluable for any career an English course at university might lead to.' - R Cary

'My work placement has made me think more favourably about teaching.... I wouldn't say I will definitely teach in the future but it is certainly an option and at the moment I cannot think of anything I would rather do.' - B Copping

'While on my work placement I have learnt many skills and had new insight into the career of a drama/theatre director. I learnt a lot and it has made me more convinced that I would love to have a job in drama when I am older.' - E Dalton
