CBE for former Merchants' Governor
An ex Merchant Taylors' Governor has been named a Commander of the British Empire in the New Year's Honours list. Deborah Shackleton was a Governor for nine years from 1999 to 2008. She is the Chief Executive of social housing and regeneration organization The Riverside Group, and has almost three decades of experience working in housing. It is her services to housing for which she receives the prestigious award.
Deborah has been involved in housing and regeneration for 29 years and her interested in education did not stop with Merchant Taylors', as she was previously an external examiner for the University of Westminster housing degree and is a Governor for Liverpool John Moores University.
Having moved to Liverpool in 1980 from her native Huddersfield, she moved to Crosby in 1990. She is married to Martin, 54, with whom she has two boys: Adam, 22, and Luke, 20.
The 53 year old from Blundellsands, "It's fantastic news. You don't think about aiming towards a CBE because someone puts you forward for the award and it is not something you can work to.
It will be the first time I will meet the queen, which will be brilliant - I'm looking forward to a day out at the Palace!"
Deborah was selected for a CBE by committees of civil servants from nominations made by the public, and the honour is bestowed by Queen Elizabeth II. She will receive her gong in a ceremony at the Buckingham Palace.
