The Sporting Start Campaign
At present we provide financial support (via bursaries, scholarships and discretionary assistance) to around 250 pupils each year. This costs the Schools over £1m per annum.
In order to fund just one endowed full bursary (i.e. to cover one pupil’s fees throughout Senior School and 6th Form over a seven year period, then to fund another pupil and so on) a sum of £150,000 is needed. This amount is then endowed to produce the necessary funding for the full bursary every 7 years.
In order to fund a full bursary as a one-off for 7 years, a sum of £67,000 is needed at present.
As we don’t have the necessary resources to offer most pupils who need financial assistance a full bursary, we offer part bursaries, according to identified need. This is very different from the era of “direct grants” when pupils were able to attend the Schools through Government-funded full bursaries.
With your help we can continue to provide financial support to those pupils who need it most, and we can also look at increasing this support as we head towards our 400th Anniversary celebrations in 2020.
As well as raising funds for bursaries, over final few years of our “2020 Vision Plan” we will be seeking support for capital projects e.g. essential refurbishment of facilities and new builds. This new era of capital development has already begun with the opening of the new multi-use Sports Centre.
The capital element of our “2020 Vision Plan” is crucial to maintaining the best environment possible in which our pupils can learn.
