2020vision Merchants Connected Archives2010 GCSE press release
A stunning 18% increase in A* A results confirms Merchant Taylors' Boys' School as one of the nation's leading academic institutions outside of London. In line with the rise in A Level results last week, GCSE students at Merchant Taylors' Boys have seen their A* A rating leap from 57% to 75%, with a 99% A-C pass rate.
Headmaster, David Cook, stated: "You can have your cake and eat it. Our best results are traditionally in the toughest subjects of Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and History: there are no soft options to inflate results here."
He added: " I am also just as delighted that this year group had its best ever season for at least 15 years in both rugby and cricket proving the virtues of a broad based all round education that will serve the boys for the rest of their lives".
Top performer was Joe Mansour from Southport with 11A* grades. Eight other boys Iain Baines, Tom Sutton, Bara Taufik, Andrew Edwards-Bailey, Rijul Bohra, George Johnson, Simon Macadam and Daniel Somervell also achieved an outstanding 10A*.
