Games and Physical Education are an integral part of the curriculum throughout the school. We have attractive playing fields beside the main buildings and more extensive ones, a little further away, close to the sea. There is a brand new sports centre, an indoor heated swimming pool, a purpose-built weight training area, tennis courts, a gymnasium and a fully equipped all-weather Astroturf playing area. In addition, the school has purchased a share in the international standard Astroturf hockey pitch at the Northern Club, close by.

We offer a wide range of options, including rugby, hockey and cross-country running in the winter and spring terms and cricket, athletics and tennis in the summer term. Rowing and swimming take place all the year round and, as boys move up the school, there are opportunities to take part in sports such as windsurfing, sailing, shooting and golf. We have a full range of sporting fixtures against other leading schools in the north, which enables a large number of boys to represent the school on the games field. Whilst we like to win (and our teams have excellent records of achievement both regionally and nationally), we emphasise the importance of teamwork, and encourage the involvement of as many boys as possible.
