2020vision Merchants Connected ArchivesIET Engineering Challenge Day
Six of Merchant Taylors' top Year 8 Engineers attended the Liverpool University to compete in the IET Engineering Challenge Day against schools from all across the North West. James Head-Rapson, Toby Maitland-Titterton, James Garforth, Ben Somervell, Andrew Bowen, and Laurence Duncan formed the formidable team. Their task was to design, cost, and manufacture a device that could conduct a remote operation via a video screen. They worked incredibly hard over the course of the day and just made the deadline for the testing of their mechanical arm. Bad luck in the final timed test meant that an award literally slipped from their grasp, yet they all learnt many things about how real Engineers work and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Many of the group were inspired enough to look into Engineering as a future career.
