Robbo - Thanksgiving Service

Robbo

Ian Robinson

Today, Friday 7th September, a Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Ian Robinson was held at St Faith's Church, Crosby. It was primarily an opportunity for the boys, teachers and other staff of the School to gather and grieve, whilst also celebrating everything that was Robbo.

In addition the service was attended by teaching colleagues, rugby coaches and referees from around the regions, and a number of Old Crosbeians. We were delighted to welcome Ian's wife, Liz, and his mother, Margaret; Liz's boys Robert and James, and her parents also represented the family.

Father Dennis Smith, School Chaplain, and Assistant Curate at St Faith's led the service with dignity and compassion; Mike Slemen, Ian's close colleague in the PE department, read a moving and thought provoking poem; Ian McKie, Ian (Robbo)'s other PE colleague gave a tribute; Jack Fletcher, Captain of the 1st XV which toured Australia read from the Book of Revelation.

After the Prayers, and whilst the large congregation reflected with their private memories of Ian, the Pie Jesu from Faure's Requiem was sung Meriel Cunningham, a member of the Lower Sixth at MTGS.

A retiring collection was taken, in aid of Ian's favoured charity - The Wooden Spoon. Details of the amount collected will be published in due course.
