Launched in 2009, The Big Bang: UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair is the UK's biggest single celebration of science and engineering for young people and aims to celebrate and inspire them. Three Year 11 boys, Daniel Barnes, Daniel Mackay, and Michael Roberts were invited to exhibit their video project "The Aerofoil" at this year's event at Liverpool World Museum. The boys achieved Silver CREST awards for their efforts and their impressive display stand was highly commended by both judges and visitors. The video took many hours of research testing and filming and explains the physics and use of the aerofoil in an amusing 1940's military style. The video has subsequently been nominated for an award in the SciCast Physics video competition. Despite not winning the overall Big Bang event award, the boy's had a great time and enjoyed a fascinating day. Future careers in aeronautical engineering are a possibility for the boys and they intend to study Physics at A-level next year.
