Boat Club

The Boat Club is one of the Schools' great success stories. Pioneered by the charismatic, pragmatic and dogmatic Peter Little - the Boat Club's work has stretched far beyond the Marine Lake at Southport.

Peter Little

Sadly Peter passed away recently and over his last few years he put a remarkable amount of effort into raising the profile of rowing immensely and worked long and hard with numerous boys and girls to help them achieve outstanding results in national regattas.

His hard work, enthusiasm and humour were legendary, as was his willingness to help anyone. He was the permanent butt of friendly insults - but was more than capable of giving as good as he got! He was one of those people who made the School the special place that it is.

Through his initiative, the School has worked regularly with the Birkdale School for the Hard of Hearing and Arden College; Peter's fund-raising efforts for charity were considerable, most recently supporting The Wooden Spoon.

First and foremost you need to be dedicated, that quality is by far the most important. You also have to be single-minded, some might even say downright selfish, and well organised, being able to juggle life, work and rowing commitments can be difficult.

Is Martin talking about the boys and girls of the Boat Club, or their shining example in Peter Little?
