Careers advice is given regularly throughout the Sixth Form especially through specific events, such as the Careers Convention whereby company representatives are available to answer questions. There also exists an on-going programme integrated into the General Studies syllabus, coupled with many courses and Open Days outside School.
In the Spring Term of the Lower Sixth year, students answer the Centigrade Questionnaire which generates an individual report involving a summary explaining the various stages of the programme, an Interest Profile – listing the student’s Interest Levels as bar graphs in eight broad career-categories and Course Selection Worksheets – each relating to an academic area where a high interest is shown. Specific courses and universities are listed which enables students to undertake their own research, using supporting material and an Action Plan.
In addition all members of the Lower Sixth are able to attend the Merseyside Higher Education Conference held annually at the University of Liverpool. This offers boys the opportunity:
- To attend a number of presentations dealing with various Higher Education courses and the UCAS system
- To speak to representatives from almost every university in the country
- To collect any relevant literature
- To look around a large city University, Liverpool being typical of a large provincial University.
