Inspection Day 2011
CCF Inspection Day this year took place on Friday 6 May 2011. This annual event was a fantastic showcase of the Cadets' skills and professionalism. The Inspecting Officer was Brigadier Mike Wharmby, secretary of the Combined Cadet Force Association.

County of Lancaster Competition Shoot Altcar Rifle Ranges 15th May 2011
The shoot using the Parker Hale A1 Rifle (7.62 calibre) was celebrated with MTS CCF finishing 1st in the 10 man aggregate shoot and 3rd in the other two of the three main competitions. All firers improved their individual standards and everyone who attended acquitted themselves to the highest standards. All shoots are ‘aggregated out' to incorporate pairs, fours, eights and ten man team totals. We should not forget the need for a butt party, which worked extremely hard and efficiently over the weekend. We are all indebted to the organisation and running of the event by the County of Lancaster Association and the Army (26 CTT). Also, we must thank all the staff and cadets at Merchant Taylors' School who helped make this event happen. Thoughts must also go to Cave E (team captain) who missed the event due to illness.
This year's event saw six CCF and eight ACF teams amassing a total of 102 cadets from the North West of England competing for the honours. . It should be pointed out that this rifle and type of shooting only came to our cadets and staff five years ago. In that time, we have gone from whipping boys to highly respected competitors, and we will now take our ever improving team to the National competition at Bisley, the home of shooting, in July.
Annual Adventure Training
Cadets are preparing to go out over the Easter Holidays. There will be a combination of walking, camping, kayaking, rock climbing and opportunities for cadets to develop leadership and teamwork skills. Check back here for photographs.

Merchants' Twins gain Gliding Wings
Merchant Taylors' twins Ross and Alice Benzie have moved a step forward with their RAF Cadet careers and gained their Gliding Scholarship Wings.
The Siblings attended a Gliding Scholarship course in July 2010 at RAF Woodvale, Formby and after a series of practical and theory tests and several hours flying practice they were both awarded their Cadet Gliding Wings.
The twins were presented with their wings by Sqn Ldr Graham Delaney, OC of 631 Volunteer Gliding Squadron.

Visit from North West Brigade
The North West Brigade Commander Brigadier Bill Aldridge made a special visit to Merchant Taylors Combined Cadet Force to congratulate them on their outstanding year of achievements. He was welcomed by the Contingent Commander Colonel Paul Irvine and he spent the time of his visit watching their Navy, Army and RAF sections training and speaking to as many cadets as possible. At the final Parade before the 250 cadets he was delighted to present a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards badge to Cadet Sergeant Annabel Fox who is awaiting a date to go to London to receive her prestigious Certificate from His Royal Highness The Duke Of Edinburgh
