Some of the successful candidates
GCSE students at Merchant Taylors' Schools excelled in this summer's examinations with another set of outstanding results.
Seven pupils all achieved straight A*s with James Edis, Rohan Chitkara, Oliver Guest and Mueez Waqar the top performers at the Boys' School and Gaythri Kumar, Christina Oulton, Lauren McNally the high fliers at the Girls' School.
At the girls' School 68% of all grades were either A* or A, while at the Boys' School 58% achieved the top marks. 30 girls (29% of their year group) achieved all A* and As, while 16 pupils achieved the clean sweep at the Boys' School.
As Merchants' has sought to broaden its curriculum, there was particular success in specialist subjects with 3 girls all achieved A* in Astronomy and 8 boys achieving either A* or A in GCSE Greek.
Headmaster David Cook also pointed to the broadening of the curriculum in traditional areas to further challenge pupils.
He said "Last year we opted to take the more demanding Mathematics iGCSE examination and the decision has been fully vindicated by the fact that 64 out of 74 boys gained either A* or A."
Mr Cook added "It's another good set of examination results where we have once again improved on last year's performance, we intend to continue the improvement over the coming years to ensure that Merchant Taylors' remains the beacon of academic excellence."
Headmistress Louise Robinson said "The results of our girls continue to prove their outstanding commitment and intelligence. Not only are they academic high fliers, but they are sheer joy to work with both inside and outside the classroom."
She added "Our Astronomy results are out of this world and testament to the hard work of not only the girls but also our Head of Physics Mrs Janet Custard."
