Match Reports and Photographs
MTS U15 2 - 0 St. Anselm's U15 - Saturday 14th November
Goalscorers: Tom Sutcliffe & Alistair Mitchell
Report:
The game started with both teams being even. After ten minutes Merchants began to dominate, they continued to dominate until about ten minutes when the St Anselms' keeper game out to save a shot from Scot Miller after a great ball by Michael Cochran which then fell to Tom Sutcliffe at the top of the D, who hammered the ball into the bottom left hand corner. All through the rest of the half and most of second half but just couldn't seem to get another goal. Until the ball fell to Alistair Mitchell who just passed it into the goal. The game was dominated by Merchants until the end of the game.
Calday Grange 0 - 1 MTS under 15s. Home/Northern Hockey Club -3rd October 2009
Goalscorer: Jack Cope
Report:
The game began at five to nine and promised to be a close match from the very start. With results from last season confirming this. MTS started off very strongly with missed chances by quite a few different players. This was how the first half continued except for one or two scares where CG managed to slip a few past the defense for a player running on. This wasn't a bad thing as the U15's were trying out a new keeper, Aaron Howard, who in the end didn't even get to touch the ball once. Starting the second half MTS was starting to feel the pressure as there had been lots of chances that should have, but hadn't been put away. During the second half there were some amazing runs from Mark Watts and Michael Cochran who almost drove the entire length of the pitch by themselves. These were nicely accompanied by some slick through balls from Giles Mawdsley and Jack Cope. Somehow no goals came through these techniques. It was about two thirds of the way through the second half when Michael Cochran managed to win a short corner. Jack Cope was injecting and he drag-pushed it out to Mark Watts who sent a thunderous shot towards the oppositions goal which was saved by CG's goalie. The then fell back to Jack Cope who tried to push it in and was met with the same resistance, it then came back to Scott Millar who slapped it into the corner but it was unfortunately stooped on the line and pushed back out where Jack Cope stopped it and sent a powerful, foot high flick into the corner of the goal which mage to hit the backboard! From then on MTS were in even more control of the game with Tom O'malley, MTS's other goalie, only getting one touch the whole half. The rest of the half ran out pretty much the same as the first with a few missed chances and MTS in complete control of the game.
Overall the score did not reflect the game despite MTS being victorious.
Jack Cope, 10H
MTS U15 3 - 3 Newcastle-u-Lyme U15 - Saturday 26th September
Goalscorers: -Alistair Mitchell 1 - Mark Watts 2
Report:
The game started with both teams going on the attack for the first ten minutes. The around midway through the first half Newcastle slotted home from close range. For the rest of the half Merchants applied the pressure, but couldn't put the ball in the goal. Until Alistair Mitchell got a ball threaded through and he finished the one on one by slotting it into the corner of the goal. The second half saw Newcastle grab a second goal, but a few minute later Mark Watts hammer a short corner straight through the keeper's legs and into the middle of the goal. But, only a few minutes from time Newcastle scored another. However in the last minute of the game Michael Cochran's miss hit fell to Tom Sutcliffe at the near post, who kept his composer and passed it to Mark Watts, who finished it with the last touch of the game.
MTS U15 2 - 0 Kings Macclesfield U15 - Saturday 19th September
Goalscorers: -Mark Watts & Alistair Mitchell
Report:
Merchants' applied early pressure on the opposition and only about 5 minutes into the game, Mark Watts dribbled into the D and scored a reverse shot. Kings Macclesfield were under constant pressure but managed to get to half time without conceding further. The second half was a similar story with most of Merchants' attacks coming from the right wing. It was around about half way through the second half, when Alistair Mitchell scored a powerful shot from the edge of the D from a shot corner. The game carried on the same fashion with Kings Macclesfield keeping out many more attacks. There were a few goalmouth scrambles which somehow managed to stay out of the opposition's goal. in the entire game Tom Omalley, the Merchants' goal-keeper, only had one shot to save, which he easily cleared and set the team onto a counter attack.
Overall, it was a very comfortable win for Merchant Taylors'.
