Merchants' Rower Makes a Splash
The Home Countries International Regatta is an annual competition between England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland and was held this year on 26th July in Cardiff Bay. Competition is in various boat classes ranging from the single scull to coxed eights.
Merchant Taylors’ pupil Tom Andersen was selected to represent Wales in the Junior Men Quadruple Sculling event. Despite getting their oars stuck in the water at the start leaving them in last place, Tom’s crew managed to recover and rowed through Scotland and were rapidly closing in on England (the winners) and Ireland (second place) as they crossed the finish line.
