ICT around the School

The school has over three hundred networked PCs and a suite of Apple iMacs in the Art Department. The computers are located in four computer rooms, the library, careers library, most classrooms and within every department.

The majority of our teachers have tablet PCs. These combine notebook functionality with digitising screens that allow interaction via a stylus. When connected to a data projector these are state of the art alternatives to interactive whiteboards.

We have a dedicated leased line for access to the Internet and a high speed link to both the Girls' Junior and Senior Schools.

Every boy has his own account with a personal network folder; his own email address and access to the Internet. Internet access is monitored by 'Surf Control' software and our IT support staff.

Each PC has Microsoft Office, Visual Studio, Macromedia Studio 8, Inspiration (a visual thinking tool) and assorted subject specific software installed.

A CD server allows access to various CD ROMS from any computer on the network.

The school's philosophy is that information technology is an essential tool to be used throughout the curriculum. All departments are encouraged to use IT as appropriate to their needs; either using the technology available in their own classrooms or by using the computer rooms for whole class teaching.
