The power-house teenager has won a succession of the country¹s most prestigious titles including the National Championships, the National Youth Championships, the Home Nations Series, the Northern Championships, the Liverpool Championships and the Shotokan Cup.

His ultimate ambition is to lift the World and European crowns for Great Britain, and is hoping that Karate will be made an Olympic sport for the London 2012 Games.

He said: "Karate demands speed, strength and flexibility. It teaches self discipline and builds inner belief and confidence." Joe trains with Kirkby Karate Club spending eight hours each week in the gymnasium combining fighting with body building and work on basic technique.

He added: "It is a little difficult finding people of my own age to fight, so now I tend to practise against men. They can teach me more variations."
