LOBAGS Golf Day report 2011

Old Boys' Association LOBAGS Golf Day
Saddleworth Golf Club - 22nd July 2011

For the second year running, Saddleworth Golf Club provided a relatively kind day, with just a small amount of rain but little wind. Seven schools competed for the "Lord John Morley Trophy" awarded to the best net team score and the individual prize of the "St Mary's Cup". The event was organised by last year's winners, Oldham Hulmeians.

Old Crosbeians were represented by David Anderson, David Croft, Ian Duckett, Nick Goodwin, and Peter Magill. Nick Goodwin won the "St Mary's Cup" for the best gross score with 31 points off a handicap of 5, and David Anderson won the net prize with 37 points off a handicap of 19.

As a team they made a virtual clean sweep of the trophies, taking "The Lord John Morley Trophy" with a total of 124 points, after discarding the lowest score. Such stardom brings other questionable rewards, in that it becomes our responsibility to organise the event next year, which will probably mean it returning to the West Lancashire Links at Blundellsands.

In terms of future Golf Days, I would dearly like to encourage some more Old Crosbeians of under 60 years old to participate. So if you are interested please get in touch:
