2020vision Merchants Connected ArchivesNuffield Science Bursaries

Four Merchants' Boys have received an esteemed Nuffield Bursary for a 4-6 week summer science placement based at the University of Liverpool.
The boys, Ben Wadsworth, Andrew Biglowe, Abhinav Kishore and Mrudel Bhatt, had to complete a rigorous application process for the bursary which will benefit them greatly when it comes to their university aspirations this year. The bright boys also had to obtain the backing of a teacher who could comment on their ability to make a contribution to the project, their motivation for science, technology, engineering or maths and attributes that would make them eligible for the prestigious bursary.
Students on the projects get to work alongside practising scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians and gain first-hand experience of the subjects in a working environment. The boys will also have the opportunity to use the knowledge they have gained in school Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Technology in a real context giving them insight into current research and development.
Participants will be required to present their project findings at an informal Celebration Evening in October at the Liverpool World Museum and the most outstanding projects will be recommended for inclusion in the 2010 UK Scientists and Engineers' Fair.
