Well it all started with a minibus journey down there to Oxford, which was nothing more than what you would expect it to be I'm afraid. But within 20 minutes on arrival at St. Hilda's college, we went to listen to a lecture concerning the famous Boudica and her British army which gave us a good insight into Roman Britain and the troubles that they faced. It was a very good revision session as well, confirming many relevant points to the GCSE Latin literature prose paper which we are taking.
Later we went to eat at Brown's restaurant which served very reasonable food, and filled us up for the night ahead, and what a dramatic night we had. Antigone was a modern take on a Greek tragedy which was extremely depressing as by the end, half the cast had committed suicide and there was a lot of crying and screaming, but overall a very unusual and interesting performance that I'm sure none of us will ever forget.
Next morning, we were up at the ungodly hour of 8 o'clock. Ahead of us was a day of sight seeing around the heart of Oxford, including Lincoln College where Mr Sutcliffe went when he was at Oxford. The college like many others has a quadrant format with well kept gardens in each square. The old architecture along with the history of the place made it seem quite quaint. Next we roamed the complex of the Bodleian library which is huge, as it has every book ever published in English! After much interesting sight seeing, we were let loose in Oxford to have a look around and have a bite to eat. Then we were off to go punting - the classic leisure activity of Oxford students. It was an incredibly physical and fun activity as we travelled up the Thames. Mrs Dunning, falling in, finished it all off! Soon it was time to come home, but what a time we had had.
