Sixth Form

(Boys aged 16 - 18 years: Years 12 & 13)

The essential aspect of Sixth Form work is preparation for higher education at university. After completing the GCSE course, boys begin a two-year course, taking four AS-level exams at the end of the Lower Sixth, and three or four A2 exams at the end of the Upper Sixth. All boys also take General Studies, and the wide-ranging specification of this exam ensures that they maintain a broad contact with the arts, sciences, social sciences, languages and contemporary issues, in addition to the more specialised approach of their other chosen subjects.

The AS and A2 subjects are chosen from a very wide range of humanities, modern and classical languages, sciences and technology, and many different combinations are possible.

Life in the Sixth Form is not only concerned with A Levels. Academic success and paper qualifications are necessary, but not sufficient, conditions for success in the outside world. There is a wide range of things going on outside the classroom in the Sixth Form and there is every encouragement and opportunity for boys to get involved. We urge them to take a full share in running the school community. They are expected to help with various school events which take place during the year, take the leading roles in music and drama, the library, the CCF, the Sixth Form Common Room and societies, in sport, on field trips and in voluntary service. The Sixth Form is the culmination of each individual's time in the school and, in many ways, the last two years here are the most rewarding and enjoyable.
