Visit from David Morrissey

Boys and girls due to star in the upcoming performance of "Hamlet", had the honour of welcoming actor David Morrissey into one of their rehearsals before Christmas. David, who has strong links with the Crosby area, not least though his independent film production company in Waterloo, spent time going through specific scenes of the Shakespeare play, trouble shooting with the budding actors and providing invaluable advice on delivery and performance.

The eminent Liverpool actor is no stranger to Shakespeare having received rave review for his portrayal of "Macbeth" in the Liverpool Everyman's closing production earlier this year.

Dr Gill, who is the Director of "Hamlet", said: "David is not only a brilliant and highly experienced actor but also a fine director and teacher of drama and he gave extremely helpful advice to the cast of "Hamlet" on several crucial aspects of their performance. His advice was not just generalised guidance about how to act, but specific advice about how particular moments in the play could be played. The cast of "Hamlet" all attended the workshop and benefitted tremendously from David's insights and understanding of the play."

Ben Cook, who is Deputy Head Boy and plays The Prince said: "His level of support, which wasn't required of him, was fantastic. It was inspirational to receive advice from someone so successful in our field. His advice about specifics and attention to detail was invaluable and greatly aided me in my own performance by forcing me to re evaluate every scene and every line and improve upon them."

Merchants has a strong history of producing successful working actors such as Samuel Roukin and Rob Kendrick, both of whom have come back into school in the past 6 months to visit their old Drama Department.

Shakespeare's "Hamlet" will be performed at Merchant Taylors' Boys' School from 21st to 24th March 2012.
