Warrington Regatta

Held on the 2nd of August on the river Mersey in Warrington, the prestigious Regatta resulted in two wins for Merchant Taylors’. Tom Andersen beat Phillip Beattie in the final of Men’s Junior 16 Single Sculls and then continued on his winning streak teaming up with Tom Preston, Phillip Beattie and Antonee Little to win the Senior Men’s Quadruple Sculls event.  We also had numerous other finalists and semi-finalists.

One particularly good performance was from the Men’s Junior 16 Quadruple Sculls Team consisting of Ben Molloy, Phillip Beattie, Josh Pinedo and Jack Stoddart. Despite this being the first time they had all rowed in one boat together this season; after a slow start they raced incredibly well and lost by the narrowest of margins to the eventual winners of the event.  Danielle Kenny was especially unlucky in the Women’s Junior 14 Single Sculls when leading her opponent she hit a couple of lane-markers, which disrupted her rowing allowing her opponent to gain the lead and win the race.

Summer Rowing at the Marine Lake

We have opened up the boat club each day so that members can come down and train.  So far we have had between 10 & 20 pupils turning up each day demonstrating their enthusiasm, commitment and dedication to the sport of rowing.
