'Reaching for Success' unveiled
The rain halted temporarily for the unveiling of the 'Reaching for Success' sculpture on Tuesday as Chair of Governors, Leo Coligan, and Head Girl, Mariyah Selmi, untied the ribbon to reveal the bronze statue depicting a girl literally 'reaching' for the skies.
The new permanent pupil has arrived to commemorate a trio of celebrations this year: the school's 120th birthday, the 75th Anniversary of the Old Girls' Association and Liverpool's Capital of Culture year. The Sculpture has taken residence in the Mulberry Garden. Artist Tony Evans' initial inspirational sketch, a girl 'reaching for success' whilst draped in cloth (with reference to the Merchant Taylors' origins in clothing) formed the basis of the sculpture.
