Admission to the Senior Girls' School usually takes place at Year 7 following success in the 11+ Entrance Examination. Pupils from feeder Primary Schools may have visited the Year 5 Activities Day which is held at the end of the Summer Term. Advertising and information for Year 6 pupils occurs in the Autumn Term preceding the year of entry. The 11+ Entrance Examination is held in late January or early February.

Candidates for the Entrance Examination, take tests in Reasoning, Mathematics and English. The Primary School is also asked for a report on the pupil. Dates for publication of the results and acceptances of offers are agreed with the Liverpool Consortium of Independent Schools. School Assisted Places are available to pupils who do well in the Entrance Examination but whose parents cannot otherwise afford full fees (please refer to ‘Key Information/Admissions & School Fees' for further information).

Admission to the school for Years 8 - 10 is made by contacting the school directly. It will be necessary to assess your daughter's academic ability. The tests comprise 3 papers in English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning, with an assessment in Science and Modern Foreign Languages. We like to offer a Taster Day, prior to testing, to Year 8-10 prospective pupils when they spend a day in school following an appropriate timetable, meeting current pupils and staff. The Taster Day is provided free-of-charge including lunch.

Application for admission to the Sixth Form is usually made when girls start Year 11 in the Autumn Term. The school hosts a Sixth Form Introduction Evening in November for all Year 11 students including external applicants. This event is an opportunity to meet key staff, including the Head of Sixth Form, Heads of Careers, and the Heads of Department for the subjects your daughter wishes to study at A-Level. We like to offer a Taster Day to prospective students too, in November if possible, when Year 11 girls spend the day following a Lower 6/Year 12 timetable. The Taster Day is free-of-charge including lunch. The admission criteria is that applicants must attain at least 7 GCSEs at Grade B or higher, with A*/A in the subjects to be studied at A-Level.

All applications require the completion of a Registration Form to be mailed to the Admissions Office with a cheque for £50 to cover the registration fee. Cheque payable to "Merchant Taylors' Schools". On receipt of your registration form, we will contact you to make further arrangements.

The school offers a modern curriculum at all stages. Elements of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 3 are enhanced by the study of Classical Civilisation and / or Latin. Opportunities for sport and the performing arts enrich both the curriculum and extra-curricular activities. Pupils usually select nine subjects at GCSE. A range of 13 optional subjects are on offer to supplement the core of English, English Literature, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Double Award Science). Twenty-four subjects are available for study at A-level.
