Parents and the home environment they create are vitally important to a child's wellbeing, achievement and prospects. Research has shown that the effect of parents and what they do at home to support learning can account for up to 80% of a child's academic success. The PTA is working hard behind the scenes to encourage better relationships between parents, pupils and staff so that both home and school life can support each other.

New Committee Chair 2010

After 3 years as Chair of the PTA, I have stepped down to Vice-Chair and I would like to welcome Andy Oakes as the new Chair of the Committee. I have found it extremely rewarding to Chair this Committee and would like to thank all who have supported me. I am confident that the Committee will go from strength to strength under Andy's leadership and wish him and the Committee every success for the future.

We have had a hugely successful 3 years, having organised some fantastic and memorable events and raising a grand total of £19,832. We have achieved the 2 core goals which I set out to achieve, namely increasing the awareness of the PTA and creating valuable links between home and school, as well as to raise substantial funds which could then be spent on improving school life across all areas of the curriculum. We have run a number of advice evenings led by professionals about concerns affecting our children eg Internet Safety Night, Drugs and Alcohol Abuse and How to be a Better Parent. We have also started the new lottery scheme and have updated the quality of the uniform sold at the nearly new uniform sales.

Other events that we have run are: Year 6 School Leavers Disco, Family Fun Night, Summer and Christmas Fairs, Passion for Fashion and the Eco Swop Shop.

With these funds raised, we have bought/sponsored the following items: honours boards, endeavour awards, 2 picnic benches, £5000 towards the baby grand piano, drum kit, CD racks, 2 satellite navigation systems for the school mini-buses, 2 tents for Duke of Edinburgh and perhaps my legacy will be the Stanfield summer fair initiative which has raised over £10,000 (total over 3 fairs) and which will largely be spent on improving the facilities in Stanfield's playground.

At the AGM in the summer term, we were delighted to welcome new members onto the Committee. We hope they enjoy their time on the committee and are grateful for their support.

Thank you again to the unseen army of help behind the scenes for the ongoing support of the PTA and I hope this year will be just as successful and can again work further towards benefiting our children across all areas of the school. If anybody would like any further information, please visit the PTA website which can be accessed via the main school website.

MTGS PTA Christmas Market - 4th December 2010

More than 350 people attended the Christmas Market on Saturday 4th December to truly get the spirit of Christmas underway! There were over 50 stalls selling everything from homemade chutneys and jams to sweets, jewellery, soft furnishings, clothing, accessories and anything and everything to do with Christmas. Father Christmas had many little visitors in his grotto and the mulled wine and mince pies flowed nicely. There was also a very special appearance from the new school mascot who was named "Harrison" during the event. Over £2000 was made in profit for the PTA to help towards the ongoing extras provided outside the normal school budget.

MTGS/STANFIELD NEARLY NEW UNIFORM SALE Wednesday 17th March 2010

As a pilot scheme, we decided to hold this sale in Stanfield Hall and at the earlier time of 3.30-5pm.The sale raised in excess of £1000 with parents purchasing both winter and summer items. Parents from both MTGS and Stanfield attended and Miss Yardley was on hand to chat to parents.

The majority of parents who attended this event commented how much more convenient it was at school pick up time and not having to come back to Crosby in the evening and having to arrange childcare.

Everybody thought having the majority of garments hanging on rails meant it was a lot easier to look for items and made the sale much more presentable. A couple of parents suggested we could start the sale perhaps at 3pm so that some parents could get to school a bit earlier to browse child free.

A big thank you to Lynne Grimmant, Nicky Mansley, Cathy Spruyt and Helen Tait for all their help. Also a special thank you to Dave for his fantastic support in setting up things ready for the sale as well as the dismantling of them afterwards.

The Eco-Recycling uniform weeks brought in a good level of donations and should continue in the future in order to maintain stock levels as well as follow up sorting of the uniform to maintain quality levels.

In addition to letters from school and posters displayed from the week prior, we placed extra brightly coloured posters around pick up areas and dressed a large bear in uniform to attract parents! Many parents attended who hadn't been to previous sales.

Many thanks again to everybody who helped or attended the event.

STANFIELD CHRISTMAS FAIR - FRIDAY 4th DECEMBER

This was a super day for all the staff and children to begin their festivities! Each class visited all the stalls which included a tombola, sweets, guess name of teddy and number of sweets, toys and they also had the opportunity to buy a "secret santa" present for their mummies or another special person in their life!

Each classroom enjoyed an extra special visit from Father Christmas who gave all the children chocolate lollipops!

Miss Yardley also had a visit from Father Christmas as can be seen on the picture below!!
Many, many thanks to everybody who brought in presents and toys for the tombola and a huge thank you to all the helpers before and on the day to make it such a day of excitement for all the children.

STANFIELD FAMILY FUN QUIZ NIGHT - FRIDAY 20th NOVEMBER 2009

This was a new event in the school calendar with the aim of being a family night of fun and good food - where children and parents had the added opportunity of meeting other parents and children from school.

The evening was held in Stanfield school hall. We were delighted to welcome approximately 80 children and family members to the event from younger siblings to grandmas and grandads. Refreshments were provided but people also brought along cakes, chocolates and sweets to share out.

Miss Yardley was a superb quizmaster for the evening, with questions for all ages including lots of picture questions for the younger members. She kept everyone on the edge of their seats eager for the next question!

Some people came already organised as a team, whilst others " buddied" up on the night encouraging new friendships to be established.

Mrs Hughes and the catering team served a fantastic winter warmer of Hot Pot Supper and crusty bread. One of the dads commented that he had been on business in London that week and eaten in three top class restaurants that weren't a patch on Mary's hotpot! A real accolade for Mary and her team.

Winning teams received prizes including free half term David Campbell soccer school places, a Christmas party entrance to Spaceport fun centre, family entry to Playtown in Southport and every child picked up a toy for entering.

It was a truly lovely family evening enjoyed by all who attended. Keep your eyes open for the next one!
