The Girls' School Archives are administered by the library. The majority of the materials are stored remotely in a secure area elsewhere in school.
The archives record the history of the school since its foundation in 1888. The boys' school has its own set of archives and also keeps the documents relating to both schools e.g. Board of Governor's minutes.
The girls' school archives run to thousands of individual items, ranging from original admissions registers, school magazines, photographs, items of uniform, samples of pupils' work and filmstrips (now DVDs) of school productions. Correspondence and ledgers from the school office generally remain closed for thirty years. The majority of the collection is catalogued and Mrs Barry can usually find answers to queries. There are two archive displays on the main school corridor which change periodically as well as a copy of each of the whole school panoramic photographs which were framed as part of our millennium celebrations. The archives are always pleased to receive any donations of school related items.
The archivist is Mrs Barry who can be contacted at school on 0151 932 2412 or on a.barry@merchanttaylors.com For more information on the archives for both schools please click here.
Here are a couple of photographs from a Prospectus dating back to 1915.
