"I have been fortunate to have been on the receiving end of the efforts of many dedicated, extraordinary and, with the benefit of hindsight, astonishly patient educators. My abiding memory of Merchant Taylors' is that of laughter, the stitch-inducing, intoxicating variety, seldom in the right place or at the right time. But it has blessed me with lifelong friendships and the benefit of a unique Merchant Taylors' education, which enabled me to profit and to adapt to what life has brought."

"News radio is fast-moving; I don't need detailed knowledge of anything but I do need to be interested in everything. MTGS encouraged me to make the most of any ability I did have. I loved the discussions in the Sixth Form History and English lessons with Mrs. Parsons and Mrs. Barnes. We were taught to ask questions, not to accept everything we were told."
Jane Garvey, BBC Radio Presenter for Radio Five Live & The World Service

Professor Janet Finch is a Sociologist who specialises in the study of family relationships, she has spent most of her career in University posts. She is one of only a handful of women who have succeeded in becoming a Vice-Chancellor. She believes that the School's strong emphasis on academic work encouraged her into a University career and helped her to succeed in it.
